Connecting Children to naturE & CULTURE

Our Wild Roots program is a free nature-based program for children ages 5-9 years old and their extended families. This program provides culturally sustainable activities that celebrates our ecoregion’s heritage and history. Activities may include cooking, gardening, or creating botanical art. Wild Roots follows a land-based educational approach is intended to nurture confident, curious, capable, and connected children and families. Our curriculum is designed and facilitated by a master educator (MEd) and is supported by Texas Master Naturalist volunteers. Each program includes story time, a cooking activity, and time spent in our outdoor learning lab and vegetable gardens.

NURTURING HEALTHY FAMILIES

The entire family is invited to spend time together during the program and encourage the entire family and extended family to join. In addition to learning healthy recipes and creating healthy meals, a healthy breakfast for all is included in each program because we know nourishment is essential to learning and caregiving. Parents are also provided free classes on parenting and teaching outdoors.

NATURE ACCESS EQUITY

Our programs support nature for all by providing a the tools, knowledge, and environment to safely explore the outdoors. Our programs are always free and aim to reach underserved and marginalized populations and those that might not otherwise be able to access nature.
